What the PTO Funds
Art Classroom Support
The PTO gives funds to the Art Teachers to purchase needed supplies for the art classroom.
Assemblies
The PTO funds a “fun” assembly in the spring before spring break. Past assemblies include ‘World of Reptiles,” BMX Bike Trick Show, and Storytelling.
Back to School Picnic
The PTO completely funded this back to school kick off event for all Hilltop families. Ice Cream treats were purchased for each student. Funds were also used to purchase games and supplies needed for this event.
Battle of the Books
Battle of the Books has been in U-46 School District for over fifteen years. It is a reading program, which has encouraged students to read good books and have fun while reading books. Battle of the Books, which we affectionately call BOB, is a voluntary reading incentive program for students in grades 4th-6th. Students read books and come together to demonstrate their abilities and test their knowledge of the books they have read at the public library. More info about BOB can be found on the district website.
The PTO funds BOB t-shirts for each student participating, and an end of program celebration like a pizza party or an ice cream party
Bereavement Support
Funds used to purchase a tree (to plant on school grounds) in memory of a student or Hilltop staff member that has passed away.
Classroom Support
Each teacher receives $100.00 to pay for supplies needed for their classroom.
DARE Program
The Streamwood Police Department D.A.R.E. program (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) was founded in 1990. The program currently has two officers working in eight elementary schools, primarily with 5th grade students. The curriculum includes teaching our students the eight ways to say no to drugs, and techniques for enhancing their self-esteem.
The PTO funds t-shirts for each 5th grade student as well as a pizza party.
Field Days
The PTO purchases participation ribbons, treats for students, and water for volunteers for Field Day in the Spring.
Food Drive
Each year the PTO sponsors a food drive to benefit the Hanover Township Food Pantry. Funds are used to cover any supplies needed and the prizes given to the top collecting classes.

Reading A-Z
Reading A-Z offers thousands of printable teacher materials to teach leveled reading, phonemic awareness, reading comprehension, reading fluency, alphabet, and vocabulary. The teaching resources include professionally developed downloadable-leveled books, lesson plans, worksheets, and reading assessments.
Reading A-Z's downloadable books, lessons, worksheets and other resources are designed for use in various reading settings from whole class to small group to individual work whether with core, ESOL, special education, RTI (Response to Intervention), bilingual and other such programs. All materials are research-based, standards-based, and results oriented.
The PTO pays for Reading A-Z subscriptions for each classroom.
6th Grade Art Tiles
The 6th grade students each make their own art tile that is put up at Hilltop so that they can ‘leave their mark.” The PTO purchases the tiles and all supplies needed for this program.
6th Grade Camp
All 6th Graders go to Camp Edwards in East Troy, Wisconsin. Outdoor education is part of the sixth grade curriculum, so they go for that purpose, but they also love camp because it is a great time for kids to get to know each other on a different level than they do at school. Kids often camp back from camp with new friendships, or closer friendships with their current
The PTO pays for the camp buses as well as the camp T-Shirts.
6th Grade Movie Club
The 6th Graders put on a ‘movie’ at the end of the year, lead by Mr. Leaver. Which is a project all 6th graders participate in and the PTO provides funds to help cover the expenses.
Spelling Bee
Materials purchased through Scripps National Spelling Bee program for students to participate in a Spelling Bee.
Teacher & Staff Appreciation
We want to give thanks to all the teachers and Hilltop staff who do so much for our children. Every staff member is treated to an appreciation luncheon in May as well as special treats. We also give thank you gifts to the secretary’s on Secretary appreciation and the custodians during the holidays – even though they work for Hilltop – they often go out of their way to help the PTO.
Staff Requests
Funds budgeted for programs/supplies that support staff may request throughout the year. For example, the nurse needed funds to purchase new underwear for students who might have mishaps. Expenditures of the “Staff Requests’ fund must be approved by the Hilltop Building Committee and the PTO.
Technology Fund
The Technology Fund has been set up to purchase-needed technology for the classrooms. The Hilltop teachers & staff work with the PTO to decide what is needed to help all the students of Hilltop. For the past two years the PTO has been working on purchasing projectors (that hook up to laptops/computers) for every classroom. As a result of our fundraising efforts last year, we are happy to report that we have accomplished our goal of getting projectors for each classroom!
The PTO puts together a budget at the beginning of each school year, which is presented at the first PTO meeting. All budget items are discussed and voted on at PTO meeting as they arise throughout the school year. We work hard to ensure that all items are approved by all Hilltop staff and PTO attendees.
